CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR MEETING APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
The following categories comprise membership in CVMA:
Full Member (FM): Those veterans with honorable service and verifiable combat or combat theatre experience. Verification can be shown by a copy of a DD-214 or, if active duty, a copy of the awards page (NDAWS, OSR, etc.) normally available through each service’s Personnel Office or PSD (Navy). Other verification can be provided if these documents are, for valid reason, not available; i.e., Navy Administrative Remarks Page 13 authorizing a combat award. Membership also includes ownership of a motorcycle of 500cc displacement or more.
Supporter Member (SUP): Those veterans with honorable service who have not served in combat or in a combat theatre environment. Application requires a DD-214 or proof of current military service. Membership also includes ownership of a motorcycle of 500cc displacement or more.
Auxiliary Member (AUX): Spouses of Full Members. Application requires a copy of the Marriage Certificate to be submitted with the FM application. The FM spouse is the sponsor.
To apply for membership, you can request a copy of an application from the CO at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A representative group of awards which qualify for membership are:
- Any Expeditionary Medals (Armed Forces Expeditionary; Navy Expeditionary; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary, etc.)
- Any combat award (Bronze Star, Silver Star, etc.)
- Badges earned through combat experience (Combat Infantryman Badge, Combat Action Badge, etc.).
- Any combat theater service or campaign awards (Vietnam Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, etc.)
Other medals can be qualifying depending on the circumstances under which they were awarded; i.e., the Air Medal can be awarded for heroism in aerial flight not related to combat, and it can be awarded for heroism in aerial flight in combat. In a case like this, the electronic awards page would list the Air Medal, but a copy of the citation or other substantiating documentation would have to be submitted to show it was awarded for a combat situation.
